Loneliness Awareness Week 12th-18th June

Loneliness and social isolation are common problems for people of all ages in our borough. These conditions can lead to poor physical and mental health and increase the risk of developing conditions like dementia and depression. The elderly are particularly vulnerable due to reduced mobility and lack of proximity to family, but young people also experience loneliness when away from home.

In order to address feelings of loneliness, it's important to seek out ways to connect with others and make new friends.

  • Consider joining a conversation group, book club, or local class at your nearest idea store.
  • You can also explore new hobbies or interests by checking out the Tower Hamlets Community Directory for information.
  • Volunteering with a local organisation can also increase opportunities for connection and help you feel valued.
  • Additionally, you can get involved in your local community or join sports, dance, and exercise classes across the borough.
